I use fabrics and thread to create art that relies on color, texture and shape to understand, mythologize and romanticize the natural landscape.
A photograph, the view out my window, or a memory may provide inspiration and structure for my composition. I don’t replicate that reality; instead, I choose fabrics based on color and texture that I then cut into organic shapes and arrange to reflect my vision. Stitching enhances the interaction of the fabric piece to create illusions of light and shadow.
Or sometimes, a piece of fabric that I have hand-painted will inspire a landscape vision that I can evoke with stitching and thread.
In this video, I explain my creative process for "Vortex."
